Meet the Staff
Each RVAP staff and volunteer is committed to providing support and advocacy to sexual abuse survivors and their loved ones.
Karla Miller, M.S.W., L.M.S.W., Executive Director

Karla began as a volunteer with RVAP in 1977, and served as the RVAP Director from 1981 to 1991. As the Executive Director since 2002, Karla is responsible for administration of the program, staff supervision, fundraising, grant writing, case management and sexual assault victim/suirvivor services. She is a certified Sexual Abuse Counselor.
Diane Funk, B.S., Assistant Director

Diane has contributed to RVAP in many roles since 1984, including Director from 1991 to 1993. She returned as the Assistant Director in 2002 and is responsible for administration, statistics and reports, staff supervision, case management and sexual assault victim/survivor services.
Anne Wilson, B.A., Accountant/Fiscal Manager

Anne has shared her talents in fiscal management with RVAP since 2002. She is responsible for grant accounting and reporting, bookkeeping duties, grant writing, and office supply and equipment procurement.
Karen Siler, B.A., Johnson County Services Coordinator

Karen has been at RVAP since 2003. Prior to coming to Iowa City, she provided services to domestic violence and sexual abuse victims/survivors in Black Hawk County since 1991. Karen is responsible for sexual assault victim/survivor services and networking in Johnson County. She is a certified Sexual Abuse Counselor.
Katryn Duarte, B.S., Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline Coordinator

Katryn began at RVAP in the fall of 2006. Before that, she worked as a Technical Service Leader for Applied Systems in Iowa City. Katryn is responsible for managing and promoting the Iowa Sexual Abuse Hotline across the state. Katryn also provides sexual assault victim/survivor services. She is a certified Sexual Abuse Counselor.
Alondra Canizal, B.S., Education Coordinator

Alondra received her B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. She has experience organizing and carrying out events for youth, including an event for 800 intercity youth in the Chicago area. She is responsible for coordinating risk education and prevention programming. Alondra also provides sexual assault victim/survivor services. She is in the process of becoming a certified Sexual Abuse Counselor.
Tara Wood, B.A., Volunteer Coordinator

Tara started working at RVAP in 2003. Before coming to Iowa City, she provided services to domestic violence and sexual abuse victims/survivors in Ames since 1997. Tara is responsible for recruitment, screening and training volunteers to staff the Rape Crisis Line, and managing the volunteer program. Tara also provides sexual assault victim/survivor services. She is a certified Sexual Abuse Counselor.
Volunteer Advocates
RVAP is able to provide support to sexual abuse victims/survivors 24 hours a day through the generosity and dedication of our volunteers. Their contributions are priceless to the agency and the people we serve.
