What is RVAP?
The Rape Victim Advocacy Program is a hybrid of a University of Iowa entity and a community human service agency. We receive funds as a Priority 1 commission of the University of Iowa Student Government and we receive significant in-kind support from the University (space, grant and payroll administration, access to purchasing, insurance coverage, to name a few).
We also receive federal and state grants and local community funding. We are a United Way agency and provide services directly to citizens in Cedar, Iowa, Johnson and Washington Counties.
What RVAP Board Members Provide
Oversight for the agency is provided by the University of Iowa Office of Student Services and an RVAP Advisory Board. Our Advisory Board is responsible for fundraising, assures adherence to the mission and vision of the agency, plans and conducts fundraising events and the development of major donors, helps develop the strategic plan, and monitors the financial aspects of the agency.
Board members represent various constituencies and possess a variety of skills useful to the functioning of the Board. We encourage diversity in our Board membership. We urge Board members to be passionate about our mission and active in helping the agency achieve its goals. If you think you would be a good match for our Board, please consider joining us.
