Congratulations on your decision to become an RVAP Volunteer Advocate! This page will provide you with all the forms and information you need to begin the application process. You will need to have or install Acrobat Reader on your computer to view and print these forms.

Before You Apply

All RVAP applicants must be able to:

  • Commit to all training dates and times. Training is 32-hours, and all sessions are required attendance. Fall 2008 Training Dates

During training, you'll learn about many topics concerning sexual abuse and counseling. Topics include: general facts about sexual abuse, sexual harassment, incest, the medical and legal processes, victim impact, healing from sexual assault, crisis intervention skills, cross-cultural counseling skills, and general counseling skills.

  • Consent in writing to a background check. Any background of assault will disqualify the applicant.

Or, you may email the volunteer-coordinator-rvap@uiowa.edu and request an application packet, training schedule, and background check forms be mailed to you. Include your mailing address with the request.

Interviews are scheduled as applications are received. Classes are limited to 10 attendees, so please apply well in advance for the class you'd like to attend.
